Zanzibar to be put on Par

Sea Cliff Resort and Spa is proud to announce that as of the 1st December 2014 they will be opening the first golf course on the beautiful island of Zanzibar.

This 9-hole, 18-tee, Peter Matkovich designed course is one of a kind, which will now offer guests the best of both worlds.

The course, which has taken nearly two years to design and construct, was visited every four to six weeks by Peter Matkovich in order to provide detailed onsite drawings and design changes.

The attention to detail is evident, and as with all Peter Matkovich courses, it offers golfers a great balance of risk and reward holes. Some of which will test you, and others which you will simply enjoy.

With soft to undulating movement, the course showcases many natural features of the island by meandering through tropical bush, past indigenous trees, coastal dunes and a mangrove area.

One of the most special features is that two of the finishing holes plays alongside the Indian Ocean, and although the course is 9 holes, the variation in distance and direction that is encountered on both the front and back 9, allows the golfer to feel that they have played a full 18 holes.

There is also an international standard practice facility, which includes a full length driving range with an array of chipping, bunker and putting greens.

In addition Sea Cliff Resort & Spa provides a resident golf pro in order for enthusiasts to perfect their swing.

Although it is open to visitors, the hotel ensures its guests preferential rates, and tee-off times, which keeps to the hotel’s promise of being attentive to all its guests needs.

The course has a par of 70, which includes short to long par 3’s, a variety of par 4’s including a couple of drivable options (depending on wind direction), and then some fun par 5’s.

Peter Matkovich explains that “Sea Cliff golf course is designed to give the hotel guest and visitor an enjoyable and fun golfing experience, while challenging their individual skill level – be they a beginner or scratch player.A unique golfing experience for the whole family.”

Matkovich who has designed many award winning golf courses, has a philosophy of listening to the land, and therefore the site and nature determine the shape, style and direction of play on each hole.

This can be seen in this exceptional course, which only adds to the natural beauty of its surrounds of Zanzibar and Sea Cliff Resort and Spa.

One of the most important questions all golfers will want answered is what about the 19th hole? Well the clubhouse is situated next to both the 9th and 18th holes, so it serves as a fantastic halfway house and one of the best 19th holes in the world as it overlooks the magnificent Indian Ocean.

“The wonderful thing about Sea Cliff Resort and Spa is that it now offers all its guests something special, whether it be spa treatments for your partner, or golfing excursions for parent and child, or one of the many family friendly activities.

This means that everyone is happy as they get to spend quality time with those they really care for.

We already have huge interest from our trade partners as well as worldwide attention,” concludes Marketing Manager, Sea Cliff Resort and Spa, Diana Howell.
