Security enquiries still increasing say travel managers

Security continues to be a strong priority among business travellers, with two thirds (65 per cent) of travel managers reporting an increase in enquiries about personal safety.

The findings, released in a new study from American Express Global Business Travel (GBT), also show corporations are taking a lead, with 54 per cent of respondents saying clients had tightened their security policies.

The study, Meet the Modern Business Traveller, is the result of responses from 254 corporate travel managers and buyers.

It also found a large increase in app-based ground transport, with more than three-quarters (79 per cent) of respondents witnessing an increase in the use of app-based ground transportation options.

Yet while sharing economy becomes more popular, the growth isn’t reflected in company policies, with only one quarter (25 per cent) saying they provide sharing economy ground transport options in policy; 30 per cent don’t.

One surveyed corporate travel manager said: “We have a preferred car service supplier but many employees opt for Uber, Lyft or similar ride sharing options because of convenience and self-service.”

For sharing accommodation policies, just 9 per cent say they offer it to business travellers, while 59 per cent say they have no plans to introduce it.
