Park Hyatt Zanzibar Hotel opens for business
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has opened its first property on the Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar as it continues to grow the brand in Africa.
Housed in two buildings on the beachfront, the Park Hyatt Zanzibar in Stone Town, the cultural heart of the island and a UNESCO heritage site, has 67 bedrooms and more than 160sqm of flexible meeting and event facilities.
One of the buildings is Mambo Msiige, a typical Zanzibari mansion that is a UNESCO heritage building with roots dating back to the 17th century. The hotel’s new purpose-built Zamani Residence will connect to Mambo Msiige.
The property will feature more than 160sqm of flexible meeting and event space that will be able to accommodate anything from discrete board meetings to state functions.
Other facilities will include the Anantara Spa, offering body treatments, massages and a hair salon, an oceanfront infinity pool and a fitness centre.
The Zamani Residence will have a library with veranda, a living room and a dining room with an outdoor terrace and a residential-style kitchen, allowing guests to dine in a variety of different spaces.
The hotel’s pool lounge will specialise in local fish dishes complemented with western sandwiches and salads.
Marcela Herrendoerfer, general manager of Park Hyatt Zanzibar, said: “We are delighted to be bringing the Park Hyatt brand to the culturally and historically rich island of Zanzibar, and in particular, to be housing the hotel within Mambo Msiige, a building of such extraordinary significance.
The Park Hyatt brand is committed to creating rare, intimate and unforgettable experiences and we look forward to opening our doors and welcoming guests to deliver those experiences.”
The property, which is the 36th Park Hyatt hotel, is one of seven Hyatt hotels in Africa.
A further four are currently under development: Hyatt Regency Arusha; Park Hyatt Marrakech; Hyatt Place Taghazout in Morocco; and Hyatt Dakar in Senegal.
