New hotels will boost MICE business in Mozambique

Mozambique is attracting more big-name international hotel brands, with new and planned openings over the next five years set to attract even more Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Events business from the region.

AccorHotels and Marriott International are among the latest international hospitality brands to enter Mozambique.

Dana Tours Director Natalie Tenzer-Silva says other brands could follow, as foreign and domestic arrival numbers continue to grow.

“These new builds will add capacity, as well as new bespoke experiences and world-class features, which bodes well for future business,” Tenzer-Silva adds.

Mövenpick Hotel Maputo

AccorHotels has signed an agreement with Matreal Property Services to operate the Mövenpick Hotel Maputo, opening in 2021.

The property is located near to Maputo International Airport, approximately five kilometres from the CBD.

With 150 rooms, there are plans for a number of dining, meetings and conference facilities.

Outside the boardroom: Maputo is alive with artistic, cultural, gastronomy and vibrant nightlife experiences. Popular tourist sites include the Maputo train station, The Iron House, central market and the fish market on the Marginal.

Four Points by Sheraton Nampula

Due to open in 2023, Four Points by Sheraton Nampula in northern Mozambique’s business centre will be Marriott’s first hotel in the country.

The hotel forms part of a mixed-use development project, comprising of a shopping centre, apartments, residential homes, a hospital, offices and the hotel. 

There are plans for 100 hotel rooms and 85 extended stay units, food and beverage venues, conferencing facilities, as well as a fitness centre and a swimming pool.

Outside the boardroom: Visit the Nampula municipal market and Museu Nacional de Ethnologia, which houses a collection of cultural artefacts. At the Makonde Collective, a group of local artists make and sell an excellent selection of traditional carvings, jewellery, clothing and woven baskets.

StayEasy Maputo

In April 2018, Tsogo Sun opened the StayEasy Maputo, ideally situated for business guests, incentive travellers and holidaymakers.

Approximately nine kilometres from the Maputo International Airport, the hotel is positioned adjacent to the Baía Shopping Mall, offering easy access to convenient stores and restaurants.

There are 125 en-suite rooms and guests receive 250MB complimentary Wi-Fi. Rewards members qualify for 2GB free Wi-Fi per room per day.

The hotel has a variety of amenities, including an outdoor deck and swimming pool, a modern meeting room for up to 12 delegates, and a business centre/workstation. A state-of-the-art gym is located close by, at the Baía Shopping Mall. A complimentary breakfast is served between 06h30 and 09h30.

Outside the boardroom: Other nearby attractions include a wellness spa, casino, nightclubs, museums, coffee shops and the famous Maputo fish market.

Meliá Hotels Maputo

Meliá Hotels International and Hoti Hoteis opened the Meliá Hotels Maputo in May.

20 minutes from the airport, there are 171 rooms and suites, meeting rooms and event spaces including an auditorium accommodating up to 150 guests, a restaurant and coffee bar.

Outside the boardroom: The hotel is within walking distance of some of the most famous attractions in Maputo, including the National Art Museum, the city’s cathedral, and Jardim Tunduru Botanical Gardens.
