Last orders for room service !
New York’s largest hotel has broken rank from its competitors by abolishing room service. Consisting of almost 2,000 guestrooms, the New York Hilton Midtown hotel is the largest hotel in New York and a popular base for tourists eager to explore nearby attractions including Times Square and Central Avenue.
From August, however, guests who fancy ordering food to their room after a day’s sightseeing will be left hungry – the service is being discontinued following a decline in demand over the last several years.
The withdrawal will be a surprise to many who assumed that expensive room-service menus provided lucrative returns for hotels around the world. Despite high prices and the addition of various in-room-dining fees and service charges, this facility often runs at a loss.
Guests who were previously dependent on room service will be invited instead to choose something from the property’s recently opened self-service outlet Herb n’ Kitchen.
Sign of the times to come ?
