Istanbul: Top three new Openings
Istanbul is seeing a boom in new hotels and venues which are attracting MICE planners, here are three of the latest must-sees.
Hyatt Regency Istanbul Atakoy
The five-star Hyatt Regency opened recently in the centre of Istanbul, a short drive from Atatürk Airport. The building, which is designed in a curved shape to give the feel of a ship, has 284 bedrooms and a luxury feel throughout.
It is perfectly designed for the MICE customer and the business area has its own entrance separate to the main hotel, so delegates don’t have to wait at the front desk.
The conference area even comes equipped with its own lifts to reduce waiting times.
The hotel features over 3,500 sqm of indoor and outdoor event facilities, from a ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,200 delegates, to boardrooms for more intimate groups.
A new feature is The Residence multifunctional event facility, which incorporates offices, living areas, a kitchen and dining room, and can be used for a wide range of events.
Other facilities include the Levana Spa & Fitness Centre and an indoor and outdoor pool. Dining options include Brizo, an Eastern Mediterranean restaurant, and Vue, a lounge and bar on the 17th floor which offers panoramic views of the sea.
St Regis Istanbul
The 118-room St Regis Istanbul opened in March on the European side of the city.
It is located in the fashionable Nisantasi neighbourhood, a great shopping district with a number of designer labels in walking distance, and some quirky restaurants down the side streets.
The luxury hotel offers views over the Bosphorus and is decorated in the spirit of Istanbul’s ‘Art Deco’ era in the 1920s.
The hotel has seven meeting rooms, the largest of which is the ballroom, which is 231sqm in size and can accommodate up to 280 people for a reception.
The venue also offers its own catering services and state-of-the-art audiovisual facilities as well as troubleshooting and technical assistance.
The St Regis has a number of dining options, including the fine-dining restaurant Spago, the Spago lounge outdoor terrace, Bat, the St Regis Brasserie, and the Petit “O” Bar. Other amenities include the Iridium Spa, which has seven massage rooms, indoor pools and a hammam.
A slightly different venue for the last on the list, PeyDerPey is a restaurant that opened recently in the heart of the city centre – or rather, above it.
Located in the bustling Beyoglu district on the sixth floor of the Richmond hotel, the restaurant offers startling views across the European and Asian sides of the city.
Visit at dusk and enjoyed the pink sunset before the lights of Istanbul at night.
The menu offers traditional Turkish cuisine with a modern touch, with a focus on different types of fish, and roasted lamb, as well as a number of mezze options for starters.
The restaurant is happy to accommodate groups and is available for private hire, just make sure to sit by the window.
